Farewell!
Mahalo for the memories, Maui!
Departure from Kahului: 12:55 p.m. (Island time)
Arrival in L.A.: 9:00 p.m. (Cali. time!)
"No alien land in all the world has any deep, strong charm for me but that one, no other land could so longingly and beseechingly haunt me, sleeping and waking, through half a lifetime, as that one has done. Other things leave me, but it abides; others things change, but it remains the same... In my nostrils still lives the breath of flowers that perished twenty years ago."
- Mark Twain, 1889
Our last day on Maui consisted of packing, taking back the rented gear from Snorkel Bob's, and making our way to the airport. We got there with plenty of time to spare (thank goodness, as we had a bit of a check-in fiasco while going through security: Emily had purchased some lotions - that were wrapped in plastic in a box - and included them in Daniel's carry-on... oops! Security didn't like that!), and ate one last meal in Hawaii at Stinger Ray's in the airport.
Once in the air, our flight went well (Olivia did awesome, because Daniel kept her content for the five hour flight... he is such a wonderful daddy!). Upon arriving back at LAX, we had another fiasco with the rude people at the parking garage who were trying to charge us more than our reservation stated (that's L.A. for you). We hit In N Out in Azusa around 10:30 p.m., and Olivia finally fell asleep in her car seat at 11:30! But to her, and all of us, it was only 8:30...
We've decided that we are going to try to get to Maui every five years (if not sooner). We absolutely love it there, and already have a list of things we want to do the next visit! We can't wait!
