“It’s the most won-der-ful time of the year!” In traditional Elgan holiday spirit, the weekend after Thanksgiving was full of Christmas cheer! On Friday, the tubs and tubs and tubs of Christmas décor came down from the rafters…the inside of the house was transformed from the colors of fall into the reds, greens, golds, and whites of Christmas. Santas, snowmen, and lights over the fireplace were proudly displayed, Emily’s “fancy” tree with “Juanita” the angel went up in the family room, and Olivia’s mini tree was decorated with mini ornaments to compliment the size of the tree in her room. Once night fell, the house became warm and cozy, with candles lit and the smell of cinnamon drifting through the air. Saturday’s mission was to go get a real tree (WE JUST LOVE THE PINE SCENT!) and do the outside of the house, when Emily takes a backseat and Daniel’s passion for decorating emerges! However, the morning was met with disappointment: the trees at that big orange home improvement warehouse were DEAD. Well, duh, we know they are dead, but they were really DEAD. We might as well have cut them into firewood right then and there! So, being the intelligent people that we are (sometimes), we decided to wait…and went home to do part two: the front yard.
The “Peanuts” bunch came out from the shadows in the corner of the garage, the traditional colored lights went up (every year, Daniel becomes a little more brave! Ladders and heights are not his forte, but he always musters up plenty of courage to get up there and beautify the house for Emily!),and the yard became the cul-de-sac holiday fixture it is every year, surpassing all expectations!

While Mommy helped Daddy achieve primo holiday decorating status, Olivia had a blast with Grammie K, posing for pictures in her “Baby’s First Year” Santa hat, watching some football on television from the comforts of Grammie’s lap, and playing outside. It was a very busy, very bright, very happy few days, with more to come this holiday season!
